Download Apps Not Available in Your Country: Best 5 Ways
Using a VPN is the best way to download geo-restricted apps
Key Notes:
- A VPN can hide your location, making it seem like you are in a different country, allowing you to download apps restricted in your area.
- Changing the location setting of your Play Store to a country where the app is available might allow you to download it.
- Downloading APK files can let you install apps unavailable on the Play Store but requires downloading from a trusted source.
Method 1: Make Use of a Reliable VPN
One of the best ways to get applications that are restricted to your country is by using a reputable VPN service with strong encryption. This software can help you bypass the restrictions placed on your country and help you get your desired application.
1.1 On PC
- Select a reliable VPN and download it. For this guide, we will make use of ExpressVPN.
- Launch the VPN and connect to a server in a country where the app is available. You can connect to countries like the USA, UK or Germany.
- Try to download the app again and see if you can get it.
1.2 On Mobile Devices
- Launch your VPN program and connect to a server in the country where the app is accepted.
- Once you are connected to a VPN, navigate to the Settings app of your mobile device and go to the Apps section.
- Select See all apps.
- Look for Google Play Store and click on it.
- Click on the Storage and cache tab.
- Next, click on the Clear cache option.
- Return to the previous screen and click Force stop. Click OK when you get the prompt.
- After doing this, return to the Play Store and download the application.
Method 2: Choose a Different Country on Google Playstore
You might be able to get around geo-restrictions on the Google Play Store by changing the country option in your settings. This is possible because the Play Store selects which apps are available depending on where you are. You may trick the Play Store into displaying the desired app and letting you download it by changing your country to one where it is available.
2.1 On Desktop
- Go to the Google Play webpage.
- Next, go to the Settings tab.
- Go to the Country/Region and click on the edit icon.
- Now click on the Create new profile link.
- Follow every other on-screen instructions to complete the process.
- Once you are done, you should be able to download the restricted application.
2.2 On Mobile Devices
- Open the Google Play Store app on your phone, click on your profile icon at the top right corner and select Settings.
- Navigate to General>Account and device preferences.
- Now choose the country you want to switch to.
- Follow any other on-screen instructions to complete the process, then go back and download the app.
Method 3: Side Load the App Via APK Files (Android Only)
Downloading APK files, which you can download and install manually, can let you install apps that are not available in your country via Play Store but require downloading from a trusted source. Ensure you only download APKs from trusted sites, especially ones that don’t require downloading external files.
For this example, we are going to use an app called APKMirror. Here is how it works.
- Go to APKMirror.
- Once you are there, click on the Search icon at the top and input the name of the app you want to get.
- From the list of results, choose the version you wish to download.
- Next, click on the See available downloads button.
- Finally, download the latest version of the app.
Method 4: Create a New Account With a Different Region
Another way you can download restricted apps is by creating a new account with a different region. This means that you will create an account that works in the country that accepts the application you are trying to download. Here is how to do this.
- Use a VPN to get an IP address for the foreign country.
- Next, go to Gmail.com and create a new account.
- Follow the on-screen instructions and input your details.
- In the phone number verification section, you will have to use a local number in the foreign country.
- After doing this, return to your Google Play Store, click on your profile icon at the top right corner, and switch to your new account.
- From your new account, try to download the app once more and see if it works.
- If it does not work, then you need to add a local payment method to your account. The payment method must be one from the foreign country, not the one used in your home country.
- Once a local payment method is added, you should be able to download your apps.
Method 5: Employing Third-Party App Stores
Although the Google Play Store is the official app store for Android users, you can install apps currently unavailable in your country from various third-party stores. However, because of risks associated with unknown app stores, such as malware, pirated apps, lack of updates, etc., I recommend only reputable third-party stores.
- We are going to use Aptoide as our third-party app. Simply download the app and install it on your device.
- After installing the app, launch it and look for the apps you want to download.
- You should be able to download your desired apps without any problem.
Also, as an iPhone and iPad user, you can create a new Apple ID with a different location to download apps that are not available in your country. However, this approach might require a payment method.
